Principles of Design: Introduction

The "Principles of Design", sometimes called the principles of art, describe how artists use/organize the elements of art in a piece of art. The principles of design include balance, contrast, emphasis, harmony, movement, pattern, rhythm, and scale.

If the elements (pictured below) are building blocks, the principles are how you put those blocks together.
